Proverbs 3:1-2

My child, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, for they will provide a long and full life, and they will add well-being to you.

Growing up as a teenager, I thought my parents were so strict compared to my friend’s parents. I felt like I could never really enjoy life because of all the demands they placed on me. They watched over my life as much as they could with rules that I thought were too restrictive.  No matter how much I felt like they didn’t understand my life or myself, looking back I can thank them for their wisdom. They knew me and understood far more than I could have with my very limited understanding of the world, life, and myself.

When I consider my life as it is now and the path that I have traveled on, I can testify that because I followed their instructions, the path I walked has not been easy but it has been free of a lot of the obstacles and people that would have kept me from being able to experience a more full and blessed life.

Heeding my parent’s wisdom has gotten me this far, but if I heed to the instruction of the One with limitless wisdom and understanding, I can trust my life to remain full of the joys and blessings of an abundant life.

Have the Lord’s instructions to you felt a bit restricting and unfair? Have you sought to ignore them or circumvent them in order to find your own, more easy way? Today is the day to choose to surrender and submit to His Word. Doing so might be a bit difficult now but it will yield you outstanding results later. This week ask the Lord for clarity on what He is commissioning you to do (or discontinuing doing) and be committed to heeding His instructions. The regulations of this loving Father are designed with your best interest in mind.
