Fire from Heaven

Shannon | Feb 16, 2021

It’s February 16, 2021, and I’m writing to you from the outskirts of Dallas, TX. It is 3° outside and there are inches of snow on the ground. We’re in a power cycle to manage electricity throughout the area, and my electricity has gone out more than twenty times in the past twenty-four hours. The doorbell rings every time it regenerates so it’s been pretty easy to keep tally.

The fireplace is on, heating the living room as my mind wanders to its crackling sound. It’s soothing, quiet and peaceful, and I’m lost in deep meditation, enamored by the flames. Fire is so fascinating, almost miraculous.

A verse referenced in week one of Priscilla’s latest Bible study, Elijah, is on constant replay in my mind.

The fire of the Lord fell . . . (1 Kings 18:38).

Elijah was so in tune with God that when he called on the Lord, His fire fell from Heaven. It fell from Heaven! I don’t know about you, but I want to be in such an intimate relationship with God that I see miracles like that. I mean, I’m enamored by fire from a fireplace. I can’t even fathom the awe of what Elijah and Baal’s prophets witnessed that day!

This is the kind of life I aspire to live . . . to unequivocally hear His Voice and abide by His commands. I want to be stretched, challenged, made new.

Are you with me, sis?

Today marks day one of the Elijah online Bible study experience hosted by our Going Beyond Ministries team. If you are participating in the study with us, we pray your journey will be a blessing and that you, too, will be enamored by fire from Heaven and eager to draw nearer to God in holy surrender. He desires intimacy with you and has called you on this journey for a specific purpose.
