Floating Feathers, Whispered Words

Rachel Anne | Feb 10, 2010

The opening sequence in the movie “Forrest Gump” features a feather, floating on a breeze.  It rises into the air, then gently spins and twirls its way to the ground, only to dance once again up to the sky.  It alights on trees, then a park bench and drifts slowly around and around, its white ruffles fluttering as it goes.

I can’t remember why we were talking about that feather, Priscilla and I, but it was a brief part of a recent conversation before we moved on to talk about something else.

But the feather! It floated around in my mind for awhile.

And something else has been floating in my mind.  A fragment of a verse, really.

Like the feather, it lifts and twirls. Spins then settles. Alighting and drifting, in and out of my consciousness.

Colossians 1:17 “He is the image of the invisible God . . .”

A breeze kicks up: “He is the image.”

Gently falling: “The invisible God…”

Alighting: “He . . . Jesus . . .”

Like a whisper, the inspired words of scripture are moving into my heart. “Speak to me, Lord.” I close my eyes. His word settles in deep. Are you listening for God’s voice?  Maybe the busyness of our days keeps us from hearing the quiet whisper that floats on a breeze and wants to settle on our soul.

He is speaking.

I’m listening today,
Rachel

“Ask the Lord to heighten your senses so that your spiritual ears are tuned in.  He can and will give you an awareness of His Presence, His activity, and His voice in all the activities of your life.  Is your ear tuned in? Are your ears wide open?” ~Discerning the Voice of God, Priscilla Shirer

What is He saying to you?
