Listen to Any Good Books Lately?

Nicole | Feb 27, 2015

I’m a book fan. I have bookshelves full of books. I love the way they look, I love the way they smell, and I love the way a brand new book sounds when you open it up for the first time. Collecting books has been a bucket list item of mine since I was about 13 years old. I love how books open doors to parts of the world we’ve yet to see or hear about.

The truth is, I haven’t been much of a reader these past several years. I’ve only read about 3% of the books I own.  And that’s the honest truth. I’ve done the math. I have a dear friend who told me she finishes a book every few weeks. I know some of you probably finish a book within a few days! I just stood there in awe as the words came out of her mouth. I’ve always admired folks who read for leisure so frequently.

I have to admit, my books are being used as decoration right now.  Ya’ll, I’ve even gone to the extent of color coding all the books on my bookshelf.  Red books on this shelf, black on this one, tan with gold lettering over on that shelf.  Serious decoration.

Well, as the calendar turned in to a new year, I made a decision to clear my schedule and say no to a favorite show or two so that I could spend more time with my nose stuck in a book.

I was off to a great start! I picked up a book that I neglected to finish last year and got comfy.  Mistake number one. I was excited to read but halfway through the 5th page, my eyes started to droop.  I shook it off. They fought back. I began to settle a bit deeper in to my chair and . . . I woke up an hour later.

I wish this was an isolated incident but I’ve been a repeat offender.

My first thought? I should read standing up! My reality? While I’m up, I should go ahead and wash the dishes and start a load of laundry . . . and . . . and . . . and! That idea didn’t pan out as well as I had expected but I was determined.

So, my remedy? This nifty new app called Audible!  I can wash the dishes and do the laundry and read a book . . . and . . . and . . . AND! I think this is going to get me back on track.  Or at least in the vicinity of the tracks.  I’m hopeful here!

Do you see how empty my new app is though?  Would you mind helping me kickstart my reading list? I want to hear what you’re reading right now!  Do you have any suggestions for good reads? I’ve been a consistent fan of non-fiction but would love to branch out in to fiction as well.

I’m really looking forward to “reading” for leisure again. But now my burning question is, “Will this Audible app let me color code my books??”  Hmmmm . . .

Until next time friends,

Nicole
