New Testament This Year

Feb 07, 2011

New Testament

Hey, just checkin’ on ya’ll! Many of our Going Beyonders decided to read through the New Testament this year and we are now one month into it.

Are you still going strong? Not so much?

I have to say that I have been so very blessed by my One Chapter a Day readings. For some reason, maybe because I don’t feel pressured to consume massive numbers of chapters in each sitting (or guilty when I don’t), I’m finding that I’m spending more time pondering. Savoring.

Listening.

And it’s funny how God works. How the chapter of the day seems to be just what He’s brought to mind, even before I’ve read it. For example, I had found myself thinking about taking His yoke upon me as I was running some errands. “What does that mean? What does that look like?” I tried to picture it.

The next morning, my reading was out of Matthew 11 and there it was:

Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. v. 29

I sat back in my chair and knew it was a word for me. Wow.

What have you been learning? Have you been trying out the “New Testament in a Year” challenge? Has it changed your devotional life?

Let’s keep checking on one another and encouraging each other to keep on reading! I’m anxious to hear about your experience so far. If you want to join in, it’s certainly not too late! Check out the post I linked to for some ideas for starting – then just jump in at today’s date!
