Preparing for a New Year

Dec 30, 2010

I love closing a chapter on one year so that I can start fresh on a
new one. Maybe I’m a hopeless optimist, but I always expect to lose
that 5 (or 10) pounds and get in shape THIS year! I dream about new
filing systems, planners and storage containers…. because of the
organizational new leaf I’ll be turning. You too? I guess we are in good
company.

As I’ve been thinking about 2011, there is one word that keeps coming to mind. It is: “Preparation.”

See, one of my favorite quotes of all time is this: “Opportunity favors the prepared.” I’ve posted it by my desk and review it often as I work. It helps motivate me to keep working toward my goals, even when I don’t see any results. Yet.

And I recently learned this quote: “Success happens when preparation meets opportunity.” I like that one! It makes me think that while we are “waiting,” we should be “working.” Check out these “action” scriptures:

Proverbs 16:3 says, “Commit your work unto the Lord and your plans will be established.”

Proverbs 16:9: “The heart of a man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.”

Steps,
work, plans….these are action words that imply that God’s purposes
are best found when you are in prayerful motion, not just sitting and
hoping, but actively becoming a vessel He can use.

Let
me ask you: Are you ready for the opportunities that will come your way in 2011 ? If your phone rings tomorrow, will you have the necessary
preparations done in order to make the most of it?

I’m asking myself these
questions and I find that when I picture those dream opportunities
coming my way, I get off the couch and into action! I don’t want to miss
God’s providential move when it happens.

What is one thing that you can do to prepare for your opportunities this year? Why not share it here – and take a step toward making it happen?

Blessings (and opportunities) in the New Year,

Rachel Anne
